Johnson County Problem Solving Courts

In order or to be considered for any Johnson County Problem Solving Court, all offenders must:

  • Be at least 18 years old

  • Be a United States Citizen or possess proper INS registration

  • Have no pending charges, probation terms, or warrants outside of Johnson County

  • Be willing to complete any treatment recommendations made by the Problem Solving Court staff

  • Have the ability and willingness to attend all required treatment obligations, court appearances, appointments, and drug tests (within ADA guidelines)

  • Have a willingness to pay for treatment and program costs

  • Not be a confidential informant

Exceptions to the eligibility criteria will be considered on a case by case basis by the courts presiding Judge.

Johnson County Reentry Court

Superior Court 1 - every Wednesday at 4:00pm

Eligibility Criteria

  • Must have 730 days to complete

  • Must have been confined in prison or a state or local correctional facility for at least six months immediately prior to entering the program.

  • Can benefit from the treatments and case management offered by the program and have a significant likelihood of not being successful without more intensive services.

  • Offender generally scores high risk to reoffend on the IRAS, has high reentry needs, or have demonstrated a pattern of returning to criminal activity following release from incarceration.

  • Any history of sexual offenses will be carefully screened.


The goals of the JCRC are to reduce recidivism among JCRC participants being returned to the community from incarceration and to reduce costs to the community by providing an alternative to long-term incarceration for offenders who successfully complete JCRC.

Johnson County Behavioral Health Court

Superior Court 1 - every Wednesday at 2:30pm

Eligibility Criteria

  • Must have 365 days to complete for misdemeanor track or 450 days to complete for felony track.

  • Must have a diagnosis that is based on the most recent DSM or is verified by a mental health care provider or other mental health professional.

  • Must be able to hold an understanding of the program and its expectations.

  • Is on probation and/or community corrections for a qualifying offense and has a mental health diagnosis and a VOP has been filed or is likely to be filed that could potentially subject the defendant to an executed DOC sentence if revoked.

The goals of the JCBHC are to increase the number of offenders that access comprehensive, wrap-around services upon entering the justice system, reduce recidivism among participants, reduce costs to the community by providing an alternative to long-term incarceration for offenders who successfully complete, and to improve the court’s ability to identify, assess, and monitor offenders with mental health diagnoses.​

Johnson County Veterans Treatment Court

Superior Court 3 - every Monday at 10:00am

Eligibility Criteria

  • Must have 365 days to complete for misdemeanor track OR 545 days to complete for felony track​

  • Have a pending VOP on a felony or misdemeanor charge and admit the violation OR have a pending felony or misdemeanor sentencing hearing after pleading guilty OR be scheduled for disposition hearing where a guilty plea will be entered.

  • Previous substance use or mental health diagnosis or treatment.

Exclusionary Criteria

  • Dishonorable discharge from their military service.

  • Sex offense conviction.

The goals of the JCVTC are to reduce substance use and other criminal behaviors among justice involved veterans, reduce recidivism among JCVTC participants, and reduce costs to the community by providing an alternative to long-term incarceration for offenders who successfully complete JCVTC.​

Johnson County Drug Court

Circuit Court - every Monday at 4:00pm

Mandatory Criteria

  • Must have 545 days to complete.

  • No history of violent offenses.

  • Have a pending VOP on a felony or misdemeanor and admit the violation or have a pending felony or misdemeanor sentencing hearing after pleading guilty or be scheduled for a disposition hearing where a guilty plea will be entered.

  • Have a pending VOP on a felony or misdemeanor charge and admit the violation OR have a pending felony or misdemeanor sentencing hearing after pleading guilty OR be scheduled for disposition hearing where a guilty plea will be entered.

  • Previous substance use or mental health diagnosis or treatment.

Desired Criteria

  • Substance use should be a moderate or high level criminogenic need with a moderate to high risk level overall.

  • Prior unsuccessful attempts at community supervision and/or substance abuse treatment.

The goals of the JCDC are to reduce substance use among non-violent felony offenders participating in the JCDC, reduce recidivism among JCDC participants, and reduce costs to the community by providing an alternative to long-term incarceration for offenders who successfully complete JCDC.​
