Johnson County Community Corrections was created in July of 1989 after the Adult Probation Department recognized a need to adequately maintain and supervise the growing number of offenders being court ordered to complete Community Service hours. Prior to the creation of Community Corrections offenders were either placed on probation or incarcerated. Adult Home Detention was added as a program in 1990. Since that time many program options have been added and eliminated as community need and effective programming measures have evolved.
In January of 1998 Community Corrections moved into their current free standing facility that houses a maximum of 90 adult male offenders and 10 adult female offenders, who are ordered on to the Work Release program. In 2025, Johnson County Board of Commissioners held a ground breaking ceremony for a new Court Services building that will encompass Adult Probation and Adult Community Corrections. You can learn more about that here.
